“Refreshing” is a word that gets thrown around a lot when discussing the music of Kacey Musgraves. Her lyrics are sharp and funny, her persona is invitingly unpretentious and her songwriting chops are impeccable (she’s credited as a co-writer on all 13 songs from her outstanding new album, Pageant Material). Although her sound is rooted in traditional country, Musgraves has a lot of crossover appeal, and she recently became the first country artist to appear on the cover of Fader.
